About the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program

There is a critical need to expand access to high-speed internet access in some rural and under served communities.  Internet access is necessary for education, commerce, and quality of life. Access to high-speed internet levels the playing field for all. To expand high-speed internet access, the US Congress established the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program, providing $42.25 billion to fund planning, infrastructure deployment and adoption programs in all 50 US states and select US territories.

BEAD was created to support the deployment and operation of high-speed broadband services in unserved and underserved communities, including tribal areas and Native Hawaiian communities. Having high-speed internet access in these areas means new jobs are created, existing businesses grow, healthcare costs go down, seniors stay connected to their families, schools can participate in digital learning programs to keep their students competitive with those in urban areas, and innumerable other community benefits can occur.

Projects funded by BEAD are designed to increase deployment of gigabit networks in unserved and underserved communities by providing grants directly to the states. These funds are then sub-granted to local communities, enabling greater access and competition. To leverage the benefits of the BEAD Program, communities must collaborate with local, regional and industry partners to enable long-term reliability and sustainability. Radisys has resources to support you throughout the BEAD Program process.  Contact our team at open@radisys.com to get started.
